Come Worship With Us at Faith Pres!

“Come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”
-Psalm 95: 1-2 (NIV)

Worship at Faith Presbyterian Church of Valley Village is a joyful experience. We gather every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. to praise the Lord, to hear His sacred words proclaimed and explained by our wonderful new Pastor Kim Strutt, to hear and join in beautiful music along with our superb choir directed by Marjorie Sexton, and to enjoy fellowship with our dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

Are you looking for a church family? “Faith Pres” may be it. One of the hallmarks of our congregation is that we are a close, loving family, united in our commitment to God, His Church, and each other.

Sunday School classes are held every week, and childcare is available. Worship services are followed by a happy fellowship reception, with great food and lively, warm Christian friendship. The first Sunday of every month is Communion Sunday.

God wants us to come to worship Him with our minds as well as our hearts and souls. Dr. Strutt’s provocative messages inspire, challenge, illuminate, and reassure us.

Worship services at Faith Presbyterian Church of Valley Village are an experience of receiving God’s love and grace in the company of a caring church family. Visitors and new members are warmly welcomed.

Faith Pres Chimes Toll for Thee

By Jay Sloat

The new Chimes are installed and working. It took a little longer to coordinate dedicated wiring for the rooftop speaker and AC power for the computer running it. The chimes came online on Monday, December 28, and currently will only chime at the noon hour each day.

Although a computer is playing the audio file that makes the bell sounds, those sounds are ultimately high quality recordings of real church bells selected from dozens of candidate bell samples. I was listening at noon on Tuesday from my house, two blocks away from the Faith Pres chapel, and I could hear their mellow sound while standing outside, but not when I was inside. We still may have a little iterating to do to find the ideal volume setting for them. Thankfully the rooftop speaker projects in a 360 degree direction and is completely weatherproof.

In the new year, our plan is to have Marjorie record some appropriate songs for our Carillon, and then we can decide a schedule of when they should be played.

Jay also reports: “I finally upgraded and rewired the audio system in our chapel to be stereo instead of just mono. The old mono amplifier is now powering our chimes system. The new stereo amplifier is a studio quality JBL system with 400 watts per channel and very good sound specifications.

“I don’t expect a huge improvement in the sound of people speaking into microphones, but do expect a significant improvement in the sound of music played from the CDs that we frequently play before the service.”

Joe Gallagher, Worship & Music chairperson, said, “We have installed a computer-based, simulated chimes system that will, henceforth, ring out from our ‘bell tower’ every Sunday morning, welcoming worshippers to church. Jay designed the system, and Gene Fox supervised the installation.”

The stained glass window with the head of Jesus Christ, seen above right, is on the northern wall of the chapel. It also includes the Greek letters Alpha and Omega, the symbol Chi Rho (Christ the King), and the monogram IHS (Jesus, Savior of Men).

“To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.”
